Torben Enghoff (b. in 1947), saxophone player, composer, writer.

In the fifties he started out on violin, guitar and the clarinet, saxophone since 1961, self-taught.
From 1967 with Maxwells, Creme Fraiche, Santa Cruz etc, and groups in his own name. As a jazzman Enghoff has experienced playing with Pepper Adams and Red Rodney and leading Danish players such as Thomas Clausen, Jesper Lundgaard and Alex Riel.

Formed New Danish Saxophone Quartet in 1986 and Copenhagen Saxophone Quartet in 1997.
Both quartets have been travelling a lot abroad and have been performing many works by leading contemporary Danish composers who wrote particularly for the two ensembles. In 2003 Enghoff and the quartet received the P2-prize for best chamber CD recording of 2003 with sonatas by Scarlatti.

Enghoff composed for the jazz groups, but didn’t start to do the scored music until 1999. He has been composing for such well known ensembles as The Kontra Quartet, Cikada String Quartet and The Wind Quintet of The Oslo Philharmonic.

Enghoff has also composed many songs for mixed choir. Several of the songs are published by Wilhelm Hansen and 15 of them are recorded on a CD ( Classico ).

In 2011 Musica Ficta has recorded and performed Enghoff's new collection of songs for choir based on love poems from the middle ages to the present.

Since 1970 Enghoff has been writing articles and reviews especially in the jazz area. Among other things he is a contributor to The Gad’s Music Encyclopedia and has written a book on many aspects of saxophone playing ( Edition Kontrapunkt ) as well as a book with 20 pieces for educational use ( Edition Dansk Sang )

Think of the way chamber music is scored - using dynamics, accents and all the Italian words telling you how the composer wants his music. Then think of jazz and latin and the very characteristic rhythmic feeling you find in this music - and you have the chamber music by Torben Enghoff. His many years in the field of jazz and his many years playing classical saxophone quartet is the engine in his chamber writing.

Enghoff's musical world has since his childhood been both jazz and classical - to mention the two main areas. But if you look at his record collection you will also find Weather Report, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, James Taylor, Aretha Franklin and many, many others. There is quality in any genre.

Enghoff started to do scored music in the late nineties. Music for string quartet, wind quintet, flute trio, flute solo, saxophone quartet and the unusual wind quartet ( oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon ) - to mention some of the instrumental combinations that he has been writing for. Add to this a tango for symphony orchestra and about 40 songs for mixed choir.

Tefftunes wants to make the access to his musical world easier. Not only the chamber music, but also all the little pieces which are written directly to his saxophone students. These pieces are excellent for the teaching situation and can without difficulty be played by many different instruments, since the range fits most of these.
